The Scott & Julie Mawaka Foundation

Fleet Response CEO Scott Mawaka and his wife Julie created The Scott & Julie Mawaka Charitable Foundation in 2004. In an effort to bring awareness and funding for non-profit organizations in the Cleveland-Akron area, they hosted an annual golf outing to benefit local charities.

Scott and Julie have selected beneficiaries that have personal meaning to them, their friends and family. Major annual sponsorship from The Mawaka Family, Fleet Response, Miele Foundation, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car and many friends and colleagues who participate on an annual basis have supported The Mawaka Foundation in their resolve to make significant charitable donations.

Past beneficiaries include The Feel-Good Foundation, HeArt Inc., Habitat for Humanity Geauga County, The Northern Ohio Chapter of the ALS Association, and Youth Challenge. With the generous support from family, friends, colleagues and neighbors, The Mawaka Foundation has raised over $700,000.00 in donations over ten years.

In 2016, The Mawaka Foundation changed directions and collaborated with LOPen Charities to support The Akron Children’s Hospital Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders. “Rockin’ FORE The Kids,” a weekend-long charitable event. Together the organizations coordinate charitable weekend including a golf outing, music, food and philanthropy. In just three years, The Rockin’ FORE The Kids event generated $700,000 to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital. Headlining bands including The Gin Blossoms (’16) Rascal Flatts (’17) , Steven Tyler (’18) and Starship (’19) and Sammy Hagar (’19) as well as celebrity chefs and sports figures, have participated in the weekend long event. In 2018, The Mawaka and LOPen Charities established a $1 Million commitment to an Endowed Chair honoring Dr. Jeffrey Hord, M.D. of the Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Unit of Akron Children’s Hospital.

In 2020, the culmination of partnership with LOPen Charities and the Endowed Chair commitment finalization will be celebrated. The event will include a Friday evening VIP event at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Followed by a well-known national artist on Saturday evening at the Cleveland Agora.

In honor of their family, friends, and community, Scott and Julie, together with The Mawaka Foundation, will continue their charitable efforts to have fun and make a difference.
